TIME TO BUILD

Bury captain Steven Schumacher has said that the club should be looking at the possibility of building on their success this season. The club returned to the League one after a gap of nine years in the lower divisions. They have had a promising first season after finishing in the 14th position in the table. Steven Schumacher has been an integral part of the club this season. He managed to prevent them from getting into relegation trouble except for one time during the entire season. At one stage, Bury looked like getting into the relegation dogfight. Bury were without a win in 13 matches during this stage of the season, but they managed to pull themselves clear before things could turn any worse.

They have finished the season with 56 points on the board, which has given them a comfortable 13 point cushion over the relegation zone. Schumacher has said that the club does not want to be content with the 14th place finish in the table, but they want to challenge for the play-offs next season. Schumacher recently signed a new contract, which has only brought more stability to the club, as they look forward to getting into the Championship after a long gap.

“It’s step one for us, next year is step two and we need to build on it. We need to push on because if you just stand still and accept what you’ve done this year is good enough then it’ll catch up with us. It’s going to be a big summer for us. The management and the board have got to go and get some players in that are going to help us again next year. Overall, the highlight of the season is staying safe and doing it pretty comfortably really,” said Schumacher.
